Zousain running 2nd in the Coolmore Stud Stakes Gr.1 was part of an incredible trifecta for impressive young stallion Zoustar. From Zoustar’s first crop, Zousain almost carried on an extraordinary four-generation family tradition in the event, he left that honor to the talented Sunlight.

The only filly in the race, Sunlight was handy from the start, and put the early pressure on Written By, before holding off a fast-finishing Zousain, to win by half a neck. Lean Mean Machine was a length away in third place.
Zousain has had his own trifecta, being runner up in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, Golden Rose & JJ Atkins. He has something to prove in the autumn!
Zoustar won the Coolmore in 2013, and his own father Northern Meteor won the race in 2008. And Northern Meteor’s sire, Encosta De Lago, won the race when it was a Group 2 and in its previous guise as the Ascot Vale Stakes.
If this historical trend continues Widden Stud’s Antony Thompson, who stands Zoustar and owns a share in Zousain, will have his moment at the Gr.1 winning post and hopefully at Widden Valley.
Born & raised at Edinglassie, he was part of our 2017 Gold Coast Magic Million draft, he was a robust quality colt as seen below. A lot like his sire, his grand sire and his great grand sire.
